Entry Level Selection
Once the essential functions of a job are identified through our job analysis process, we use this information to assemble assessment tools that measure important indicators of job success.  In the case of candidates who are seeking to join the organization, we create selection systems that are effective and efficient.  Our systems are developed in adherence with the guidelines, principles, and laws governing fair employment practices.  We are fully versed in virtually every aspect of employee selection including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Equal Pay Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as all relevant professional guidelines in this area.

Through extensive research and validation studies, we have developed several off-the-shelf solutions specifically for screening candidates interested in the job of commercial driver.  Click on the links below or scroll down for more information regarding EB Jacobs off-the-shelf entry level selection solutions:

These solutions were designed to help transportation agencies identify the best candidates for the job with a minimum of effort and at a cost that is easily offset by gains in operating efficiency, reduced accidents, and greater customer/client satisfaction.

Bus Operator Selection System (BOSS) and Bus Operator Selection System Plus (BOSS Plus)

BOSS is a selection system consisting of a pre-employment screening survey and structured interview process that have provided selection guidance on over 90,000 candidates for transit properties nationwide.  According to our research findings, bus operators are primarily responsible for being there, being safe, and being courteous – BOSS assesses these critical aspects of a bus operator’s job performance.

In a nationwide study of bus operators sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) and conducted by the consultants at EB Jacobs, we found that candidates who scored higher on the BOSS and were ultimately hired had:

  • 7 fewer absences per operator per year
  • 1 fewer accident per 6 operators hired

… resulting in a cost savings of nearly $300,000 per year for a mid-sized agency.

Both the BOSS and BOSS Plus screening surveys focus on several important variables related to effective bus operator performance.  The BOSS Plus includes a customer service assessment which helps you identify individuals who will assist you in achieving higher levels of ridership satisfaction.  Our research has shown that the customer service scale included with BOSS Plus correlates significantly with supervisory ratings of bus operators' customer service orientation.

Train Operator Selection System (TOSS)
TOSS is a parallel hiring system developed from our experience with the Bus Operator Selection System (BOSS) that is specific to commuter train, subway and light-rail operators. Transit properties using this system can expect to receive the same positive results as those coming from the original BOSS.

Commercial Driver Selection System (CDSS) for Truckers, Cabbies and more

CDSS was developed to be used by virtually any organization in the transportation industry, whether passenger or cargo transfer, for assessing candidates for commercial driving positions. Candidates are assessed on three critical aspects of the job – Attendance, Safety, and Customer Service. Research has consistently shown that our selection systems for hiring drivers reliably identify individuals who will come to work, maintain schedules, avoid accidents and show greater customer sensitivity, ultimately adding to your company’s bottom line.
